Welcome to 3rd grade!
Welcome to 3rd grade! I am very excited to be a part of your child's life this year and look forward to celebrating all of the growth and learning that will take place.
My journey at Montecito Union began in 2008. Through my career I’ve enjoyed teaching Kindergarten, fourth, fifth, and sixth grade. I truly love teaching and look forward to every day in the classroom where I am constantly learning and growing. My childhood years were spent growing up in Northern California, in a bilingual family, where much of my early years were spent traveling back and forth between California and Germany to visit our relatives.
I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Child Development from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and continued my studies at UCSB where I received my teaching credential and Masters degree. Further graduate studies through the Harvard Graduate School of Education were completed in 2011, emphasizing in Teaching for Understanding and Visible Thinking. Thanks to our MEF and the support of our school board, I was able to attend Project Zero at Harvard with my colleagues, where we worked with educators from around the world to broaden our understanding of thinking and learning. The Reading and Writing Project at Columbia University has also helped fuel my passion for literacy and allowed me to find new ways to deepen student understanding. Recently, I completed a Reading and Literacy Added Authorization through University of California San Diego.
Instilling a love for learning in students and continuing to find ways to encourage dispositional thinking and the life skills needed for this ever-changing world is my goal.
As a mother of a three, I find myself constantly enjoying the little moments and exploring the learning process. Every day is something new and exciting! My husband, Rob is a landscape architect in town and we have lived in the area since 2004. We love all that Santa Barbara has to offer and enjoy spending time at the beach, surfing, hiking, running, and biking. We also love traveling to new places and enjoy spending time in the mountains throughout the seasons.
Our dynamic and creative third grade team approach works with individual students to set goals and work towards reaching their personal best. Every day is intended to advance and solidify their skills to help them develop a strong educational foundation for their years here at MUS and beyond.
Please stop by to introduce yourself in the coming weeks. I look forward to this upcoming school year and getting to know all of you!
